Ingredients

  • 3 oz fresh frozen kava root paste.
Note: If you don't have fresh frozen, you can use 35 g of dried kava powder.
  • 5 oz fresh coconut meat and 44 oz of filtered water.
Note: If you don't have a coconut meat, you can use 44 oz of coconut milk.
  • 1 oz Mamaki leaves.

Preparation/Instructions

  1. Simmer the water and mamaki leaves for 30 minutes.
Note: if you're using coconut milk, simmer with the milk instead of water.
  2. Strain the mamaki leaves.
  3. In a blender, place your fresh frozen kava, fresh coconut meat, and hot mamaki tea and blend until thoroughly mixed. Usually 30 s to 1 min.
  4. With your nut milk bag in your bowl, pour the kava, coconut, mamaki tea mix into the nut milk bag.
  5. Allow the kava tea to soak for 3-4 minutes or until the kava tea is cool enough to touch.
  6. Gently massage the nut milk bag making sure to massage all the kava root and coconut meat. Massage and strain for about 5 minutes.
  7. Do a final strain removing as much of the tea from the nut milk bag as possible.
  8. Serve 5 oz in a coconut shell or glass if you don't have a coconut tree.
 Pro Tip

Don't throw away your kava roots!

The coconut and kava can be used 3-4 times. Just add more mamaki tea (make more tea using the original mamaki leaves) to the nut milk bag, massage, and strain using half the amount of water each time.

If you're not going to make more tea right away, you can store your nut milk bag with the coconut and kava in a sealed container in your refrigerator for 1-2 days or freeze and use within 1 month.
